HARTFORD — The South Asian Bar Association of Connecticut (SABAC) elected a new Board of Directors last week, elevating several new members to both its Board and Executive Board. Under the continuing leadership of President Rachna Khanna, the leadership team is set to embark on a series of strategic initiatives aimed at expanding SABAC’s reach, enhancing member engagement, and promoting professional excellence.
Rachna Khanna continues her leadership as President in 2025. Khanna said, “I am very excited to work with a dynamic new Board and serve my second year as President of SABAC.” Khanna looks forward to bringing SABAC to new heights in the second, and last, year of her presidential term.
Bhanuka Y. Mahabamunge was elected to serve as Vice President, marking it his first elevation to serve SABAC as part of its Executive Board. Mahabamunge said, “I am honored to be selected as the incoming Vice President of SABAC. I look forward to working with the SABAC Board and members to develop innovative and forward-thinking ideas to advance diversity and inclusion in the Connecticut legal community.”
Along with Mahabamunge, SABAC welcomes to the Executive Board: Abhishek Mukund as Secretary and Fizza Alam as Director of Communications. New additions to the Board also include: Aamina Ahmad, Anand Gupta, Vanitha Patil, and Vinay Thakur. Meanwhile, continuing in their roles on SABAC’s Executive Board: John Mutchler as Treasurer for his third term and Ruchandani as Immediate Past President for her second and final year. Board Members Prerna Rao, Sanjiv Reejhsinghani, and Raj Mahale return to the Board and continue their service as Directors.
SABAC is excited for the upcoming year and confident in its new leadership, including its new President and Vice President duo, Khanna and Mahabamunge. SABAC remains grateful to all former members for their tremendous efforts over the past year.
Founded in 2004, SABAC has since served as a resource for the state’s lawyers and law students of South Asian descent for professional development and growth, networking, and community outreach. SABAC is focused on advancing diversity and equity in the Connecticut legal space and for the state’s South Asian residents in their professional and personal endeavors.
